And another catcher of the sun...

One more entry into the fray!

Lead crystal refracts sunlight, creating rainbows whenever the sunlight touches it. Oh, and if there is a breeze, dancing rainbows.

For some, crystals stir the energy in a room, home or office.

For others, crystals are protective.

I think the magic power of a crystal is simply it's ability to be just what you need it to be.

I've made suncatchers for years. I love the play of light. I primarily use them outside, hanging in the trees, though I have them in the house, too. I leave the tree drops 'hanging out' all year long. All the materials are weather resistant and I enjoy the sparkle in the weary winter months so much.

Fire and Ice

Suncatcher for your consideration! The photo above was snapped as the sun hit the prism just right creating the sparkle. How cool is that? Yes, I seriously do have drops just like these hanging in my trees. Of course I have them in the house, too. Also on the rear view mirror. Wait, is that too many? I like the sparkle and shine. I also like the movement the dancing light brings to whatever location it is in.

O H - I O Back in Stock

The oh so quickly gone OH-IO Scarf is back in stock. It really is a beauty. Just because I associate it with the Buckeyes, doesn't mean you must. It's a great scarf whether you have a sports affiliation or not. I love the feminine quality of the ruffles. This yarn is very soft to the touch and so light weight, which also adds to the femininity of it. Definitely one of my faves!

Love is all around!

I took this picture from my office window last summer, with my cell phone. It's untouched in any way. Seriously. With my cell phone.

See the large heart cloud? See the little one to the left and down, almost in the tree? Most amazing clouds ever.

It was a windy day and I almost couldn't get the phone together to take the picture before the clouds moved on. Notice how blurry the birds are in either upper corner.

These clouds are just another way the Universe shows us the love that really is all around us. All the time, every day, love is all around us, we just need to take the time to notice.

In these days of hurry and busy, it's a good reminder to stop and appreciate.

Want to learn to Crochet

I learned from a book. I remember as a girl, watching my aunt make things for her babies and wanting to learn, but it wasn't until I was in my twenties that I bought a book and a hook and started. You can learn from a book. You can also learn from YouTube videos.

I highly recommend checking out a book from the library (or several books) and then your only investment is a hook and some yarn (less than $5). Don't buy the most expensive stuff. When you are learning, you will make mistakes. Do you really want to practice with $20 worth of yarn?

I started with a hook that I paid just over $1 for and leaflet book that was $2.50. That leaflet did get me started, but was not great and I ended up at the library checking out a large stack of books. I also started with a skein of Red Heart acrylic yarn. It was perfect for practicing because the yarn is very consistent and is firm enough to hold it's shape. A lot of the soft yarns do not and it's difficult to see the stitches. Trust me, it's VERY important to see the stitches when you are starting out.

My other piece of advice is this: It's going to be frustrating, don't give up. You will want to quit, don't give up. You will think you are never going to get it, don't give up. It might seem boring or repetitive, don't give up.  (Are you sensing the theme?) DON'T Give Up!

It's worth it to make one completed thing and then decide if Crochet is for you or not.

Over the years I've tried teaching an assortment of nieces. It hasn't caught on with any of them yet. I'm not giving up hope, though. Hence this post.

Creating things is among the most satisfying endeavors. Everyone is creative, I think. Even those who say they are not. I think they just haven't found the right thing. Perhaps crochet is yours!

Greetings World!

We're starting a family endeavor this year called justmccaulla. It started with an etsy shop and now is moving into local retail as well. We are a creative family and it's time to find outlets for all this creative energy.  This blog will contain our creations. It's our hope to publish some tutorials and helpful how to's in the future.

It's going to be a learning process for all of us, so you will want to check back often!

For now, let's get this party started with a really great quote:

First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination. Napoleon Hill
